Entries in the general sections Info, Options, Generic
Settings made here have effect in general as a rule. Please note that the existence of the Info section as well as the version entry there are mandatory, and that the Options and Generic sections have no fallback to the standard-skin (quasi mandatory too)!
Please note the new entries marked with `Valid since 10.5`
[Info]
The existence of the Info section containing the entry `Version = 3` or `Version = 2` is mandatory, otherwise Opera cannot identify the skin or cannot start correctly!
- Name String Code = xy
Value: S_SKIN_MANAGER_OPERA_STANDARD
Valid since 10.5
The above value `translated` says nothing more than `Opera Standard`; valid is theoretically every string code you find in other Opera ini files. Every skin saved in the same folder as the standard-skin displays the translated string code as skin name (in the Tools→ Appearance→ Skin dialog) if available. But a skin saved in another folder displays the value from the entry `Name =` as skin name. So normally the `Name String Code` entry is reserved for the standard-skin; there is no need to have it in a custom skin! - Name = Your skin name
Value: text, Default if no entry: -
Insert here your desired skin name (and your version, if desired), this skin name you see in the `Apply download skin` dialog appearing during a skin-download (in the Tools→ Appearance→ Skin dialog you see the file name, so skin name and file name should correspond) - Version = x
Value: 3 or 2 only, Mandatory!
Use the value 3 in a skin for Opera 9.5 and newer, but value 2 in a skin for older Opera versions than 9.5, the value of this entry specifies also the fallback behaviour, see Fallback - Version - Preview image =
Value: -, Default if no entry: -
Not in use
Here the complete [Info] section for a custom skin:
[Info] Name = Your skin name Author = Your name Version = 3 Preview Image =
[Options]
There is no fallback to the Options-section of the standard-skin if you have no [Options] section in your custom skin!
- Full transparency = x
Value: 1 is enabled, 0 is disabled, default value if no entry is 0
Valid since 10.5
This entry allows full transparency for every background element (only win7/vista with aero effects). You have to use then `Clearbackground = 1` entries in the desired sections (see Section entries - Clearbackground as well as the `Transparency` entry below). - Transparency = x
Value: 1 is enabled, 0 is disabled, default value if no entry is 0
Valid since 10.5
This entry allows to enable/disable the transparency for standard background elements (visible only on win7/vista with aero effects). Sections like `xxyy transparent skin` are ignored then, even if in use with win7/vista aero effects (eg [Addressbar transparent skin] is ignored then and the [Addressbar skin] is in use). Please note that the known entry `Full transparency = 1` overrides `Transparency = 0`! Note also: if you use clones of transparent sections for intransparent sections, then the Transparency/Full transparency entries have not the expected effect (eg [Addressbar skin] is a clone of the [Addressbar transparent skin] with `Clearbackground = 1`)! See also Section entries - Clearbackground as well as the above `Full transparency` entry).
This entry enables/disables also the top bar: enabled you see the tabs inside the top bar, disabled you see the top bar separated:
- Dim disabled backgrounds = x
Value: 1 is enabled, 0 is disabled, default value if no entry is 1
Valid since 10.5
Enables/disables the dim effect for button backgrounds, to see for example on the addressbar. The icons itselfs seems to be not affected - only the bg. Below you see the enabled and disabled effect on the (disabled) back/forward buttons:
- Large Images = x
Value: 0 or 1, Disabled is 0 and enabled is 1, Default if no entry: 1
With the value 1 a checkbox for `Large images` appears in Tools→ Appearance→ Toolbars and allows this way to choose a second set of larger buttons/icons per toolbar. If you have no second icon/button set defined, the value must be 0, otherwise the checkbox is misleading, see Section types and states - .large. - Inverted Pagebar Icons = x
Value: 0 or 1, Disabled is 0 and enabled is 1, Default if no entry: 0
Specifies if you see alternative inverted icons on the normal tabs or not. Alternative icons have `inverted` at the end of the name - eg `Panel Contacts Inverted` instead of `Panel Contacts` in [Images]. That allows to have on other places bright icons, but on the tabs dark icons - or vice versa. - Fallback foreground = x
Value: 0 or 1, Disabled is 0 and enabled is 1, Default if no entry: 1
Disables/enables fallback to the standard-skin for lacking foreground elements. Value 1 recommended for a custom skin, value 0 only for the standard-skin! see Fallback - Fallback background = x
Value: 0 or 1, Disabled is 0 and enabled is 1, Default if no entry: 1
Disables/enables fallback to the standard-skin for lacking background elements. Value 1 recommended for a custom skin, value 0 only for the standard-skin! see Fallback
The following additional entries are not in use, but valid as well:
- Glow on hover = x
Value: 1 is enabled, 0 is disabled, default value if no entry is 1
Valid since 10.5
The new entry allows to enable/disable the blueish hover effect in general everywhere; to see normally on all elements which have no own .hover section, for instance on the new tab/speeddial button, see below:
- Native skin = x
Value: 0 or 1, Windows, Mac or Qt, Disabled is 0 and enabled is 1, Windows, Mac or Qt, Default if no entry: 0
Specifies if the skin should have native behaviour or not (not in use in a non-native skin):
0 is native disabled
1 is native enabled and Opera identfies the current OS
Windows is native enabled, for the OS Windows only
Mac is native enabled, for the OS Mac only
Qt is native enabled, for the OS Qt only
If your skin should have native behaviour, the recommended entry is 1, so Opera identifies the OS - with the entries Windows, Mac or Qt the skin cannot work in another OS than specified.
Native behaviour means: most of the base elements are taken from the OS, merely buttons/icons and some other elements are definable by the skin. In your skin folder you should find a native skin for your OS as example (in Win it is the Windows_skin.zip called `Windows Native` skin). Note also, that a native skin have fallback to the standard-skin too. - Center tabs = x
Value: 0 or 1, Disabled is 0 and enabled is 1, Default if no entry: 0
Specifies if the tabs in tabbed dialogs should be centered or not. See Tab button skin and Tabs skin
Here the complete [Options] section, as well as the additional entries not in use:
[Options] Transparency = 1 Dim Disabled Backgrounds = 0 Large Images = 0 Button Text Padding = 0 Inverted Pagebar Icons = 1 Fallback foreground = 1 Fallback background = 1 Full transparency = 0 Glow on hover = 1 Native skin = 0 Pagebar max button width = 150 Pagebar min button width = 150 PageCloseButtonOnTop = 0 PageCloseButtonOnLeft = 0 Center tabs = 0
[Generic]
There is no fallback to the Generic-section of the standard-skin if you have no [Generic] section in your custom skin!
- Line padding = x
Value: in px, Also negative values allowed, Default if no entry: 1
Specifies the vertical space between the lines in treeviews:
The following additional entries are not in use, but valid as well:
- Draw focusrect = x
Value: 0 or 1, Disabled is 0 and enabled is 1, Default if no entry: 1
Specifies if the focused line in treeviews should have a dotted border or not:
- Fieldset border color = #xxxxxx
Value in HEX, Default if no entry: the color from from the webpage
Specifies the border color for a fieldset defined in a webpage:
The following additional entries are not in use, but valid as well; but the use of these text and text bg colors seems to be very complicated - I`m not able to find out the trick currently. In general these entries have to do with:
- the colors for window from the OS
- the colors for selected elements from the OS
- the colors defined in the sections/state-subsections of Treeview skin, Panel treeview skin, Detailed panel treeview skin, Listitem skin, Address dropdown title label, Address dropdown url label, Dropdown edit skin, Dropdown search skin, Dropdown skin, Edit search skin, Edit skin, Multilineedit skin - at least!
Bear in mind also, that all the entries have effect everywhere in Opera and/or in webpages:
- Selected text color = #xxxxxx
Value in HEX, Default if no entry: - ?
Specifies the text color for selected text everywhere - Selected text bgcolor = #xxxxxx
Value in HEX, Default if no entry: - ?
Specifies the bg color for selected text everywhere - Selected text color nofocus = #xxxxxx
Value in HEX, Default if no entry: - ?
Specifies the text color for unfocused selected text everywhere - Selected text bgcolor nofocus = #xxxxxx
Value in HEX, Default if no entry: - ?
Specifies the bg color for unfocused selected text everywhere
Here the complete [Generic] section, as well as the additional entries not in use:
[Generic] Line padding = 2 Draw focusrect = 1 Fieldset border color = #000000 Selected text color = #ff0000 Selected text bgcolor = #0000ff Selected text color nofocus = #ffff00 Selected text bgcolor nofocus = #008000
