The order of the Yugolsav Crown was instituted by King Alexander I on 10. october 1929. It was used as an award of merit, both civil and military and it was also awarded to foreigners. The order of the crown was organized in five classes of wich the first two had a breast star. The first design of the order was made without the laurel oak suspension. The loop ring passed insted through the top side ball of the order. It seems that the responsabels remarked that the order was not well proportioned in this way and only a few months after the institution the order design was changed and the green suspension was added. The existance of the so called type I (without the suspension) is prooved as there are pictures of officers wearing orders of that appearance. It is known that the order was manufactured by Huguenin from Switzerland and some items are from Sorlini in Varazdin, Kingdom of Jugoslavia. The two types are very difficult to separate and it is thought that Sorlini was only assembling half-finished parts made by Huguenin. This fact was never proved. |
