Welcome to the Clarinet Collector website. The site will be dedicated to tracing and documenting the history of the clarinet's development and evolution. I hope it will become a useful   resource for students, teachers and others interested in learning more about the history of this fine musical instrument. Look back for information on:

  •  Development of the clarinet

  •  Evolution of the keywork from the simplist 2 key clarinets, to the more sophisticated 5 key, 13 key, full Albert, Clinton, Oehler, Boehm, McIntyre, Mazzeo systems and everything in between!

  • Soprano clarinets in C, Bb and A and why transposing parts is only a partial solution

  • The Family: Sopraninos, Sopranos, Altos, Basses, Contrabasses et al.

Meet the founding members of the site:

 •  C. G. Conn, Elkhart, Indiana 5 ring Albert system in Bb LP from 1917 with rollers.

 •  E. J. Albert, Brussels, Belgium 4 ring Clinton system in Bb LP circa 1900 with rollers.

 •  A Whaley-Royce, Toronto, Canada 2 ring simple system  in C circa 1870

If you have suggestions of what you'd like to see on this site, or have historical  information (period advertisements, articles, pictures of early clarinets, fingering  charts, etc.) which you are willing to share via this site, please contact  me at the email link on the contact page.

We take collecting clarinets and playing vintage woodwinds seriously!
