A theory is something nobody believes, except the person who made it. An experiment is something everybody believes, except the person who made it.

(Albert Einstein)

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds the most discoveries, is not "Eureka!", but "That's funny..."

(Isaac Asimov)

Contrary to what Asimov says, the most exciting phrase in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not "Eureka!" or "That's funny...," it's "Your research grant has been approved."

(John Alejandro King)

About me...

I'm a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Lugano (USI), since September 2008. I am interested in object-oriented programming, virtual machines, systems interaction (from hardware to higher abstraction levels), performance measurements, regression tests, algorithms and education. Actually, what I really love at the moment is the teaching part of my Ph.D. ...unfortunately this doesn't seem to be usual for a Ph.D. student.

My advisor is assistant professor Matthias Hauswirth, who is mainly interested in approaches for understanding the performance of modern, complex systems. Moreover he is also really interested in exploring every possible way to improve the teaching "art", following a kind of "socratic" philosophy.

Occasionally I also work as substitute teacher in the middle and high schools of Ticino (a.k.a. Italian part of Switzerland).

In September 2008, I got the Master of Science in Embedded Systems Design at the USI, Advanced Learning and Research Institute (ALaRI) with a thesis on GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) related technologies.

In October 2005, I graduated as Computer Science Engineer at the University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) – Department of innovative technologies (DTI), with deep studies in the technical field of the discipline (embedded systems). My degree work was the development of an application based on Cellular Automata by using the Java (J2SE) language. For the outstanding results of the final exams and of the degree work I won the “Economia Ticinese” prize.
