Paul Shayo is a very good guide! He has a lot of knowledge of the Kilimanjaro and its environment. Climbing with him up the impressive mountain is a big pleasure. Paul makes your trek as comfortable as it¹s possible at more than 5000 meter above sea-level. He respects your culture and gives you the possibility to know Tanzania and its people better. But the most important is, that you can feel save all the way up. His experience and empathy brings you up to Uhuru Peak and back again to the black continent. Enjoy the trip and the sunset on the summit.

My husband and I climbed the Kilimanjaro with Paul in October 2003. On his advice we climbed the Machame route and took one more day of acclimatisation. I must say that it was one of the most exciting and memorable experience of our lives! Paul is a very professional guide. He knows the mountain very well and always works with a staff he knows. We went up just with the two of us, and with Paul and a second guide. This precaution was taken so that if one if us did not want to proceed, the other still would have the possibility of going up with the second guide. Even though this was not needed in the end (we both made it!!!!) it really felt comfortable and safe.

The thing we liked very much is that he respects your individual needs (in terms of condition and food ... I am a vegetarian and the food was really nice and specially prepared for me) and that you only go up with the local people (porters, guides and cook). It really felt good that there is not a large western company that earns loads of money and underpays the tanzanian people. The people who do the work are also the people who you pay directly (via Paul). We took out own sleeping bags (it can get VERY cold at night!!) and matrasses and everything else was taken care of. Being up the mountain with sunrise (we had the luck of also having a full moon on our last night's walk!) surrounded by the cracking ice, above the clouds is a once in a lifetime experience. Our best friends also climbed the mountain with Paul in May 2004 and they were also extremely satisfied with his company. Go for the experience, you will love the challenge!!

When We (Karl & Daniella from Holland) climbed the Kilimanjaro in july 2004. After consulting with Paul we decided to clim te beautifull Machame route. We went up in 4 days and after the fouth day we left at 12 o clock for the top. After reaching the summit we went down on that same day with to stops at Barafu camp and Mweka camp

Savety: Very important is, that you can feel save all the way up. His experience and empathy brings you up to Uhuru Peak and back to Moshi. Paul keeps a good eye on you whether your suffering from the height or otherwise. He will also advise you what and how much to eat and drink, which of course can be very important.
Team: The teamplay of our team was very good. Everybody committed to his role and there was a lot of laughter and smiling faces (in contrary to some other teams we say going up te mountain).
Food: In two words: above expectation!
Equipment: We took our own tent and sleeping bags, but of course it is possible to rent you equipment.
